Technology hubs in Aba, Abia State are actively collaborating to get more women trained in the digital space.
More women are finding the digital space a viable industry to hone their tech skills and also contribute to solve everyday problems in their different communities using technology-enabled innovations.
Indeed, for some time now, the spotlight seems to be on the women folks, as more opportunities, trainings and funding have been channeled to women –focused organizations and startups, with the aim of involving more female hands and brains with it comes to the digital space and technology enlightenment.
And so, in the bid to include more women and grow their digital skills in the tech world, an ICT workshop for young ladies was recently held in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia State.
The event which took place at RAD5 Tech Hub in Aba had enthusiastic women in attendance who were willing and eager to absorb recent developments around technology and the digital space.
While speaking on the active roles of women as regards to ICT development in Niger Delta, the anchor of the workshop, Precious Ezema stated that events of such nature helps in changing the narrative of most ladies in underserved communities to learn skills and key into better opportunities across the globe.
Due to the fact that digital Skills and being technology savvy isn’t gender sensitive, Precious noted that women can achieve even the extraordinary once they let go of the imposter syndrome that may be holding them back.
“We have had success stories of young women in this city who have risen from obscurity to become global brands just because of their programming and ICT skills. And all of it was made possible due to events like this. Technology and digital knowledge needs everyone, and women are not excluded.”
Organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission and facilitated by Tomorrow Leader Foundation, the workshop is actively focused in states across the Niger Delta Region.
In his speech, the co-founder of RAD5 Tech Hub, Igwe Uguru pointed out the hub’s readiness to include more women in the hub’s vision to grow a technology savvy community.
“It’s overwhelming to see many women turn out for this workshop. As a hub, we actively collaborate to host events like this in the hub, because it is one of our core values.
We believe that as more women are intentionally included in the digital space, it is not only a step in the right direction, but a seed we are sowing a better and sustainable future.”
